Jobs at British Council

We are the United Kingdom's international cultural relations organisation founded in 1934. We have offices in 216 towns and cities in 109 countries worldwide. Our 129 teaching centres teach over one million classroom hours every year.

We have been in Africa since 1934, to build mutually beneficial relationships and increase awareness of the UK’s creative ideas and achievements. We do this through English language teaching, opportunities in UK education, the promotion of arts and innovation, and the development of professional networks. We also connect people from the UK and Africa, using student exchange programmes, study visits and cultural events.

We work in 23 countries throughout Africa. Each of our centres offers a different range of services and events, to promote English language learning, UK education and cultural creativity and innovation.
What we mean by cultural relations. Our work is driven by our strong belief in internationalism, a commitment to professionalism, and an enthusiasm for creativity. We believe that cultural relations can help individuals and the world community to thrive. Therefore, we have a special focus on youth. Connecting young people across all cultures, creating genuine mutual trust and understanding, has never been more important.
